It sometimes happens that a series of seemingly unconnected events can align and cause a person trouble. When the culmination of those events leaves that person facing drug charges, the trouble becomes very serious. For one unfortunate Texas man, his very bad series of events began with a car accident.

Police responded to an accident in Bryan, a small town northwest of Houston, on Nov. 22. Three cars were involved in the crash near the Braircrest Drive exit off Texas 6. During the investigation, an officer apparently became aware of the smell of marijuana emanating from one of the vehicles.

The driver of the vehicle, a 26-year-old man, was being issued a citation for driving without a license. The officer inquired if the man was in possession of any marijuana, to which the man said he was not. Believing the man to be behaving suspiciously, police searched the vehicle.

The search revealed a digital scale, packaging material and six bags of marijuana. A handgun was found under the seat, and a sizable bundle of cash was also discovered. The man was arrested and charged with delivery of marijuana, and possession of a firearm while committing a crime. If convicted, he could face 2 to 3 years in jail and up to $14,000 in fines.

Being in the wrong place at the wrong time may possibly cost this man his freedom, unless he is able to provide a solid defense. After being arrested on drug charges, it is important to seek legal counsel as soon as possible. Serious offenses like these should be handled with the assistance of an experienced Texas criminal defense lawyer for the best chance of a positive outcome.
