Law enforcement officer accused of sexual assault of a minor

To be embroiled in a sexual assault case is a serious situation. Being accused of sexual assault of a minor can be a nightmare. A San Antonio law enforcement officer has been living that nightmare since his recent arrest over an alleged relationship with a teenage girl.

The 42-year-old man was arrested Dec. 27 after resigning his position with the Elmendorf Police Department. He had served in various law enforcement roles since 1998. He is accused of carrying on a months-long sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl.

According to police, the man began abusing the girl in September, and the relationship continued until just before Christmas when the girl’s mother found an explicit photo of her daughter while transferring data to a new phone. She reported the discovery to the police who then interviewed the girl. The girl allegedly claimed she and the accused had sex approximately 20 times, and said the man told her he loved her and hoped to marry her. He has been charged with continuous sexual assault of a child and is being held on $75,000 bond.

The possible existence of electronic evidence could make this a difficult situation for the accused man. Sexual assault of a minor is a very serious charge, and a conviction could lead to an extremely stiff punishment. Charges like this may be best faced with the representation of an experienced San Antonio criminal defense lawyer. A lawyer who has handled sex crime cases successfully in the past could make all the difference to anyone so accused.
