Alleged drunk driving incident sees man charged after fatal crash

On Behalf of | Jan 17, 2017 | Uncategorized

A night out for drinks can turn tragic in the blink of an eye. While no one sets out to injure another person with their vehicle after an evening on the town, sometimes accidents happen. When alcohol is allegedly part of the mix, an accident may appear criminal to police. A Texas man coming home from a bar was reportedly drunk driving at the time of a collision that claimed a person’s life and injured three others.

The crash occurred Jan. 7 around 3 a.m. A 49-year-old man was reportedly driving in the wrong direction on I-35 South in San Antonio when his pickup truck forced a van off the road and into a barrier. It is alleged the man had been on the wrong side for about three miles.

An 18-year-old male occupant of the van was killed in the crash. Three others in the van, a 58-year-old man, a 58-year-old woman, and a 2-year-old boy were injured. The driver of the pickup admitted to having mixed alcohol with medication for depression and anxiety. He was arrested and charged with three counts of intoxication assault and one count of intoxication manslaughter.

Whenever a person is killed in a traffic accident that allegedly involved drunk driving in Texas, the potential consequences for the accused may be severe. The combination of alcohol and medication can make a case more complicated for both the prosecution and the defense. Having a skilled criminal defense attorney working on one’s behalf could make a significant difference in the outcome of such a case.
