3 vehicles struck in suspected drunk driving accident

A serious motor vehicle accident changes lives in the blink of an eye. This is true for everyone involved, including anyone alleged to have caused an accident. A young man from eastern Texas now faces a world of trouble after a terrible accident led to charges of drunk driving.

The accident took place on Oct. 29, 2016 at approximately 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of East FM 1960 and Imperial Valley Drive in Harris County. Three vehicles were waiting at a red light in the westbound lanes of 1960. Two of the vehicles were small cars, and the third was a motorcycle.

A pickup truck, also in the westbound 1960 lanes, approached the intersection, but failed to stop. A traffic enforcement officer from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office indicated the driver of the pickup appeared to have attempted to pass between the two cars and the motorcycle but struck all three. In total, five people were injured in the accident. The two motorcycle riders were thrown from their vehicle and were declared dead at the scene. Two helmets were located, but neither was found on the deceased riders.

The driver of the pickup, a 21-year old man from Spring, Texas, was taken to the hospital. With drunk driving suspected, a deputy ordered a blood sample be taken from the man. The driver was later taken into custody and now faces two counts of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle.

Accidental deaths are a terrible tragedy, but it’s the living who continue to suffer. The young man accused of causing this incident now faces an uncertain future, and likely a lifetime of regret. For anyone dealing with the legal aftermath of a drunk driving accident, choosing suitable legal counsel may be a good first step.
