2 Texas women face multiple drug possession charges

On Behalf of | Jul 16, 2013 | Uncategorized

When someone in Texas is convicted on drug charges, the penalties that he or she faces largely depend on whether the charges are misdemeanors or felonies, as well as if there was intent to distribute. Regardless, being convicted of drug possession can negatively impact all aspects of a person’s life. That’s why it is important for anyone facing such charges to put together a solid defense, as two women from east Texas will now have to do.

The arrest occurred recently after police performed a search at the home of one of the accused. According to reports, only the woman living at the residence was targeted, but both women were in the home at the time of the investigation. The police search yielded a variety of drugs, including methamphetamines, prescription pills and marijuana. Police also found drug paraphernalia and a handgun.

The women now face multiple misdemeanor drug possession charges as well as one felony count each of possession of a controlled substance. One of the women also faces a weapons charge for having an unlawful firearm in her purse. They were booked into the county jail.

It was not stated whether others lived at the residence. Additionally, reports indicate that the pills found at the home had not been prescribed to either of the accused. These could be factors in the case these women make as they fight the drug possession charges. Individuals facing similar charges in a Texas court may wish to examine all available options as they plan their criminal defense strategy.
