Hollywood actress facing charges for drugs, evidence tampering

On Behalf of | May 24, 2013 | Uncategorized

These days, it seems almost impossible to open the Internet browser on your computer or smartphone without encountering some sort of news feed devoted exclusively to the trials and tribulations of celebrities — particularly their legal problems. In fact, these feeds were buzzing today over the news that a famous television and movie actress had been arrested in New York City for a drug crime.

The actress in question was none other than 27-year-old Amanda Bynes, the star of such feature films as “Hairspray” and “She’s the Man,” whose recent run-ins with the law have been well documented by various gossip outlets.

According to reports, the building manager in Bynes’ Manhattan apartment building called police after allegedly spotting her smoking an “illegal substance” in the lobby.

Once they arrived at the building, police went immediately to Bynes’ 36th floor apartment, where they were granted access by the actress after knocking on the door.

The report indicates that the officers noticed a bong and other drug paraphernalia sitting in plain view on a coffee table, and that Bynes began throwing the objects out her 36th floor window shortly thereafter.

She was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with a felony count of tampering with physical evidence, and two misdemeanor counts of marijuana possession and reckless endangerment.

After submitting to a psychiatric evaluation and spending the night in a local precinct house, Bynes appeared before a judge. Here, she was released with instructions from the judge that failure to return for a July court date would result in the issuance of an arrest warrant and “significant bail.”

It is worth noting that Bynes was recently sentenced to three years probation by a California court for driving on a suspended license and also has a drunk driving charge pending against her there.
