Shia LaBeouf briefly jailed for misdemeanor charge

On Behalf of | Oct 20, 2015 | Uncategorized

Shia LaBeouf — the actor who rose to stardom with the Transformer series — was recently accused of making a much different transformation on the streets of Texas. After a night out, he now faces a misdemeanor charge for public intoxication. However, it is not yet clear if there is actually enough evidence for the case to proceed to trial.

LaBeouf’s arrest apparently stemmed from an incident during which he crossed the street despite a cross light indicating that it was unsafe to do so. While in the crosswalk, an oncoming police vehicle had to slow in order to allow his safe passage, even though police claim that the motor vehicles had the right of way at the time. The officer proceeded to flash his lights and then pulled over.

Upon questioning LaBeouf, the officer claims that the actor appeared intoxicated and initially tried to walk away from him. His speech was also noted to be slurred, which the officer took as a sign of intoxication at the time. After LaBeouf allegedly resorted to name calling and threats, he was arrested and booked into an area jail.

A misdemeanor charge is typically less serious than a felony in Texas, although that by no means indicates that defendants should not approach these types of criminal allegations with as much caution and preparation as possible. In order to minimize the consequences of a conviction or to forego jail time and fines altogether, it is often well advised that defendants take the time to confer and evaluate all evidence and charges alongside their counsel. Although this is reportedly not LaBeouf’s first legal issue, these careful steps can be of advantage in many different criminal situations.
