Multiple drug charges for Texas auto dealer

There is little that can be worse for business than for an owner to be arrested on his or her own premises. That extremely unfortunate circumstance is precisely what happened to one Texas businessman. He has been accused of multiple crimes and faces several drug charges.

In a joint effort between the DEA, ATF, Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office Narcotics, and Canton Police Department Narcotics, three warrants for the arrest of a 67-year-old Edgewood man were executed on Jan. 12. He was arrested at his automotive business, and searches were conducted both there and at his residence. Large quantities of drugs and allegedly stolen items were recovered.

At the business, officers found 3,404 prescription pills, and an ounce of marijuana. An additional 19,560 pills were found at his home. Three guns, three trailers and a lawn mower -- all purportedly stolen -- were also seized at the residence. He has been charged with two counts of unlawful delivery or manufacture with intent to deliver a simulated controlled substance, and four counts of manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance. He was arraigned on all felonies and bond was set at $350,000.

The physical evidence is significant in this case, and the charges carry with them the threat of jail time. This is a very challenging situation for the local businessman, and it will likely be tough to get through. There is always hope, however, for a person dealing with drug charges. A skilled criminal defense lawyer familiar with Texas drug law may be able to make a difference in a difficult case.
