A Texas father is expected to surrender himself into police custody after an arrest warrant was issued for him. He is facing a felony charge for forgetting his young child inside of his car for a short period of time. Although the young girl was not injured, police are not taking the matter lightly.
The 25-year-old father had his young daughter — aged 10 months old — in the back of his car when he drove to work. After arriving at his workplace, he apparently forgot that his daughter was in the vehicle, and he left her as he went into work. A short while later, police were notified that a small child had been left inside of a car.
Upon arrival, police discovered that the child was no longer inside of the vehicle and had been taken inside of the gym were her father works. The mother was also there at that time. Only about 30 minutes had transpired between the father arriving at work and the small girl being freed, and emergency responders determined that she was not in any type of distress. However, she was still taken to an area children’s hospital as a precautionary measure. She was released later that same day.
A $2,000 bond has already been set for the father as Texas police wait for him to surrender. His charge for Endangering or Abandoning a Child through Criminal Negligence — a felony charge — could have a potentially profound impact on his life, both professionally and personally, if he is convicted. With so much on the line, he might be well advised to begin working on his defense preparations as early as possible.
