Shooting prompts police to arrest three for drug distribution

On Behalf of | Jan 21, 2016 | Uncategorized

An apparent shooting led local Texas police to arrest three young men on drug-related allegations. Accused of drug distribution for marijuana, all three remain police custody with bond set at $30,000 each. It is possible that police will make additional arrests or file different charges as the investigation into the incident continues.

According to police reports, the three men, ranging in age from 18 to 21 years old, drove to a town outside of their own residence in order to deliver marijuana to a group of buyers. The number of individuals present at the apparent drug deal was not disclosed, but police did say that they believe everyone present was in possession of a firearm. When the deal apparently fell through, local residents alerted police to the possibility of a shooting.

Multiple people were transported to an area hospital after police arrived on the scene. The three men initially fled the scene, but later stopped in order to seek help for a woman who had suffered a gunshot wound. Due to the severe injury caused to her neck by the bullet, she had to be airlifted to the hospital. It was at that point that police arrested the three men that they suspected of being involved in the drug deal.

The criminal justice system must walk a fine line between seeking appropriate consequences for alleged behavior and not permanently burdening an individual for the rest of his or life. All three men accused of drug distribution are relatively young with their whole lives ahead of them. Aside from the legal ramifications of a criminal conviction — including fines and jail time — defendants might also miss out on valuable career and education opportunities. Responding to criminal charges in as timely a manner as possible is just one of many strategies that defendants in Texas can utilize in order to achieve the best possible outcome for their unique and individual situation.
