Drug charges: Will marijuana be legalized in Texas?

In the state of Texas, marijuana is considered to be a Class I drug. Many people, however, disagree with the idea that marijuana is a dangerous drug. As most readers of this blog are aware, other states have legalized marijuana for medical use, and some are even legalizing the narcotic for recreational purposes. Those facing drug charges relating to marijuana in the state of Texas may find it hard to believe that, in these other states, their alleged crimes may not considered to be crimes at all.

Currently, a political group known as the National Organization to Reform of Marijuana Laws is fighting in order to legalize the use of marijuana in the city of Fort Worth. However, it is far from legal at this time. Possession of marijuana can result in a Texas student being removed from his or her school. Worse, marijuana possession can result in Texans being sent to jail.

Some believe that the legalization of pot will happen in Texas and other states, and it is only a matter of time. Others disagree, and some are fighting strongly against the legalization of marijuana. Whether the group will be successful in Texas remains to be seen, although this group was successful in getting certain bills passed in other states.

Those who are found in possession of large amounts of marijuana in Texas at this time will face potentially stiff legal punishments if they are convicted of the charges. For this reason, the accused must diligently assert legal defenses against such charges in order to avoid conviction and the possibility of punishment. Numerous legal strategies exist to assist those accused of marijuana possession here. If successfully navigated, a criminal defense can achieve many positive things for those who have been accused of drug charges. In the best of outcomes, all the charges may even be dropped completely.
